Many of you are aware that CIP has been a keen advocate of the development of internet based, internationally proven Automotive Dealer Management Systems with access available to all relevant outlets and with a secure provision for backing up data. For more details please contact us direct.

With the current economic situation and insecure environment prevailing in many countries, there is a growing demand for many managers to look for ways to cut the cost of providing IT services.

The IT industry recognises that the cost of providing IT and communications can be substantially reduced by Hosting a ‘virtual’ IT operation in cyber space, eliminating the need for banks of servers at every location with each requiring the relevant IT support.

The solution emerging is what the IT industry calls “Cloud-based architectures” that enable communications, data and services to move easily within and across a ‘Cloud’ computing infrastructure.

We now have access to a solution which will enable the automotive industry to capitalise on this technology and host the following services in a ‘Cloud’:

 ·                  Replicate your Servers with secure back up facilities

·                  DMS (Dealer Management System)

·                  Replicate hard drives with access via the internet from anywhere (not just your existing terminals, but only with secure password access)

·                  Eliminate the need for software and data held on your hard drives (the need is only for a terminal with internet connection)

·                  Speed up data transfer via the internet as only the data on the window will be streamed, not the entire programme

If you are interested in learning more about this ‘Cloud-based’ technology then please contact us.

Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

The concept of cloud computing fills a perpetual need of IT: a way to increase capacity or add capabilities on the fly without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing new software. Cloud computing encompasses any subscription-based or pay-per-use service that, in real time over the Internet, extends IT's existing capabilities.

Cloud computing provides computation, software, data access, and storage services that do not require end-user knowledge of the physical location and configuration of the system that delivers the services. Parallels to this concept can be drawn with the electricity grid, wherein end-users consume power without needing to understand the component devices or infrastructure required to provide the service.

Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption and delivery model for IT services based on Internet protocols, and it typically involves provisioning of dynamically scalable and often virtualised resources.

It is a byproduct and consequence of the ease-of-access to remote computing sites provided by the Internet.

This may take the form of web-based tools or applications that users can access and use through a web browser as if they were programmes installed locally on their own computers.

Cloud computing providers deliver applications via the internet, which are accessed from a Web browser, while the business software and data are stored on servers at a remote location. In some cases, legacy applications (line of business applications that until now have been prevalent in thin client Windows computing) are delivered via a screen-sharing technology, while the computing resources are consolidated at a remote data centre location; in other cases, entire business applications have been coded using web-based technologies.

Many people are initially concerned about security but since the ‘Cloud’ is hosted by leading tier 1 or blue chip providers, employing the highest levels of security and redundancy with guaranteed service level agreements, the ‘Cloud’ will always be using the very latest in security devices so will always be more secure than your own local system in your company. Additionally, since your data is backed up on several other ‘Clouds’ the chances of data being irretrievably corrupted or lost is virtually zero.

The term ‘Cloud’ is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on the cloud drawing used in the past to represent the telephone network, and later to depict the Internet in computer network diagrams as an abstraction of the underlying infrastructure it represents.
